Edna Valley - San Luis Obispo Coast

PLACE

Ninety-nine percent of Sauvignon Blanc in California comes from warm climates, but the world’s most iconic expressions such as Sancerre and Marlborough come from cooler regions. That is why we are proud to be leading the cool climate Sauvignon Blanc movement along the California coast. Our Stone Blossom combines Clone 1, Musqué, and ENTAV Clone 530, originally from the Loire Valley. We continue to source from the Salaal Vineyard in the heart of the Edna Valley, incorporating both Clone 1 and Musqué, which brings a lifted floral element to the blend. At Paragon Vineyard, we remain focused on Clone 530, planted on the north side in iron rich volcanic soils. This block ripens early and naturally shows lower pyrazines than Clone 1, delivering purity and balance. New this year are two additional vineyard blocks from our home Paragon ranch, both planted to Clone 1. These new sites add depth and complexity while helping to shape the future direction of our Sauvignon Blanc program. This wine reflects a distinctly coastal cool climate expression, zesty, aromatic, and full of energy. It is a fresh perspective on California Sauvignon Blanc, built on nuance, freshness, and place.

AROMATICS

The new vintage shows remarkable clarity and herbal lift, shaped by another cool growing season on the San Luis Obispo Coast. Aromas of salty citrus and crushed herbs lead the way, supported by a mineral edge and subtle floral spice. Layers of lime zest, coriander, cucumber, and passion fruit bring freshness and dimension, while a quiet earthiness grounds the wine. The nose is both bright and savory, capturing the vibrant energy that defines our coastal sites.

PALATE

Imagine if there were Sauvignon Blanc pop rocks…this wine is right there with its explosive freshness on the palate.  Don’t let the energy fool you, there is a ton of texture to this wine that brings out a complex collection of flavors.   Salty citrus fruit leads, followed by earthy green herbal notes that are rounded out by melon and peach.  All of this is framed by mouthwatering minerality.  You can taste the age and wisdom of these vines and their five decades of coexistence with the nearby Pacific Ocean.  This is definitely not your typical California SB.
