PLACE
Albariño is a varietal I hold deep in my heart, having helped lead its rise in the New World since the mid 2000’s. Together with my cousin, we spearheaded the planting of one of the more ambitious New World vineyards using cuttings originally from the legendary Morgadio Estate in Spain's Rías Baixas. I’ve always believed Albariño has a genetic memory for the sea. After centuries on the Atlantic soaking up mist and salt, those vines didn't feel foreign when we planted them just 5 miles from the Pacific. They felt right at home, instantly recognizing the rhythm of our coast.
The similarities between the Edna Valley and the O Rosal subzone of Rías Baixas are striking. Both share a close proximity to the water, protected by coastal hills that soften the sea while keeping the maritime influence front and center. It is really two different oceans speaking the exact same language of fog, wind, and salt. That ever present coastal effect delivers an Albariño packed with vibrant acidity, minerality, and bright citrus, all backed by the signature salinity that defines our site.
AROMATICS
Our Cadre Albariño is a true expression of where land meets sea. On the nose, it reveals spicy citrus and salty zest, complemented by seductive notes of orange blossom and jasmine, along with what I like to call Hawaiian breakfast fruits. The influence of the nearby Pacific Ocean is evident, with briny notes that speak to the sea. White flower notes are present, but an exotic mix of citrus and tropical fruit takes center stage.
PALATE
On the palate, this wine is full of tang and energy. Our Albariño never lacks acidity. In fact, managing that high acidity is one of our biggest challenges, yet also our greatest gift. There is a rich assembly of citrus, white fruits, stone fruits, and lush tropicals, all balanced by bright acidity from start to finish. A lingering freshness and minerality cement Albariño as the true queen of the sea. The wines from here are noted for their vibrant acidity, rich minerality, and robust citrus flavors, all underpinned by the area's hallmark salinity
